One
tends to think of the flute as a
delicate flower of an
instrument. But really, it has
surprising sides to its
character that one would not
expect! On January 10th our
flute soloist
Alexander Viazovtsev, will
perform the "impossible" Rodrigo
Concerto, a work that extended
flute well past its previous
possibilities. In this
introductory evening, he will
share some of the oddities of
the flute repertoire (and its
sound possibilities) with us,
including playing the Carmen
Fantasy by Borne and some
examples of ja zz
flute. He will also share with
us about his extraordinary
journey from his homeland in
Siberia to his present position
as principal flute of the Las
Vegas Philharmonic.
And, Award
Winning, Young Composer...
...10
year old Graham Cohen, the
youngest winner of the
ASCAP Morton Gould Young
Composer Award, will speak
about the meteorological
inspiration for his piece, as
well as how he became a
composer, and describe the
process he goes through to
compose a new piece. |
