About the event
Igor Stravinsky exhibited a particular skill for finding rich people, working his way into their lives, and landing a big commission to write and name a piece for them. That doesn’t make Dumbarton Oaks Concerto – named for the home of a patron – any less spectacular. Like all the work on this smorgasbord of a program, it is light, transparent, with more than a small debt to the jazz of early 20th century America. Even Haydn managed to capture this spirit centuries earlier. Eine Kleine Funmusick.
